Description: For your consideration is this beautiful, vintage Wayang Golek Rod Puppet. It was acquired at a Private Estate Sale (please see my many other puppet listings!) from a couple who purchased this piece in the very early 80s from an antique shop in Holland while they resided there. This piece had been part of the Indonesian puppet theater. We did inquire about the exact age of the piece and the couple told us it was acquired from the antique shop and was quite old at the time they purchased it. The couple had this piece, along with many others, on display in their home for decades. The Indonesian Puppet Theater has been around since the early 16th century! This traditional theater features hand carved and hand painted rod puppets. The puppeteers tell a story using the puppets and their colors and attire are clues to the part they played in the theater. This particular piece was perhaps a clown puppet meant to lighten the mood. This is a gorgeous piece of history, celebrating the rich culture and artisans of the region. Your purchase does NOT include the stand used to hold the puppet upright for the photo. We've taken detailed photos of the middle rod for you. The couple who we acquired the piece from recommended even tall glass weighted with marbles, rocks, or beads to hold the rod and the puppet upright (if desired). The glass would remain unseen under the skirt. This puppet is in wonderful vintage condition, given its age. There is a small hole in the skirt and a crack on the head. This puppet does not have broken fingers....he is made to point with two fingers. Please see our detailed photos for more information on condition and measurements! Please see description and photos for item condition. Imperfections are common in vintage items. We work to describe and/or photograph items carefully so you know exactly what you are getting. The character of our vintage and antique items are often very enhanced by such imperfections. I say this so our buyers don't expect brand new, mass produced results from aged items and production processes. This is the charm and uniqueness that makes vintage and antique items so special! Photo props are not included in your purchase. The stand used in the photos to hold the puppet upright is not included in your purchase. We pack items very carefully. If your item arrives damaged, please provide photos to aid us in submitting a claim with the carrier. Thank you for supporting this small business!
