About the Skirt It makes the beautiful sound, swish, swish, swish when moved about This smock pleated, high waist, tab closure full Princess Ballgown Gypsy skirt with hidden deep side pockets is a couture look from a second label. While this silhouette is extremely fashionable right now, making its way back onto red carpets recently, a classic piece like this will carry you through the years You would see this skirt on both Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City and Emily Cooper from well… Emily in Paris The original label is attached, with size and fabric tags This is 100% silk with three layers of silk starting with the jewel toned blue taffeta exterior shell (this is literally a CC13 blue, pure blue Pantone 000F) and two layers of green underskirts including a ruffled green peekaboo skirt (CC 14- Pantone 00c14) It is magnificently opulent, one of the purist examples of this style of skirt I have seen in a very very long time, the rustling sound it makes as I move it back-and-forth brings goosebumps to my arms It is topped with a thick silk velvet waistband measuring at about 2.75 inches with 130 plus micro pleats (smocking) Four silk 1 inch velvet ribbons travel from waistband to hem with the silk velvet hem measuring in at 2 inches thick. The gorgeous green organza underskirt is about 3 inches longer than the overskirt and designed to show at the bottom of the ensemble- it also features over 100 micro pleats both at the top of the waistband, and where the ruffle attaches The third layer under that skirt is a green tulle underskirt that is also smock pleated Flaws- * 3 pinholes on the interior waistband * As seen in photo 14 there are three light markings measuring less than .75 x .25 inches each on the front panel of the skirt, hidden when wearing by the pleating, that is almost impossible to detect. I found it when I looked at the skirt in direct sunlight while dewrinkling it and then couldn’t find them again and it took forever for me to find them to photograph the flaw * One of the hooks has one of the threads snapped and needs to be reattached at some point * came to me very wrinkled and should go to a dry cleaner to be properly steamed About the label Miss O Miss O by Oscar De La Renta (I have seen this label misclassified as both Miss D by Oscar De La Renta and Miss Dior by Oscar De La Renta but the company name was Miss O LTD which you can find by tracking the RN number) was a very successful high-end second label sold through high end retailers like Bergdoff Goodman‘s that started in the 80’s and was discontinued sometime after 1995. In the late 70’s through and 90s many couture designers introduced a second label, the designs were slightly below the pret a porte (ready to wear) fashions but far above the quality of the non-designer labels of the time, to take advantage of the growing middle class and teen markets. Cudtomers were delighted at the prospect of paying only $200 or $300, in 1980s money!, for a designer that previously only sold designs starting in the low $1500s. The rise of fast fashion starting has slowly removed the second labels and the current crop of designers who still run a second label run it far more like fast fashion than the beautiful works of art that we created in the 70s through mid 90s When creating at a second label item the designers would go one of two ways 1. A junior designer would create something completely new (most of the items are these) 2. A past couture or pret a porte design by the named fashion designer would be slightly altered with fabrics or colors and released the second label This is an example of number two. This is a beautiful classic example of an Oscar de la Renta Gypsy (sorry if this feels like a slur, this is literally the name of the Fashion trend he started) Peek A Boo Petticoat Silk Skirt done in the Jewel Tones popular in the late 80’s- early 90’s Styling- You can wear any type of corset top (Dark Garden) or T-shirt that you wish with the skirt I have paired it with a matching strapless ruched tulle and satin bodice by Zara and it comes free with purchase of the skirt to create an entire ball gown ensemble. I found it at the same estate I found this rare beautiful skirt and I think the original owner may have worn them together at some point or maybe their kid or grandkid borrowed their skirt and put it together with the top Though shown without, this would be stunning with a additional crinoline or petticoat to really maximize the fullness of the fabric you get with micro pleating Size: Womens 4 Measured Flat Bust- 28-29” Waist Top- 26” Length Top- 8-10” Waist Skirt- 26” Hips- Free Blue Taffeta Skirt Length- 36” Green Organza Skirt Length- 40” Bottom Hem Circumference- About 120” Please carefully examine photos. This is silk taffeta and organza, it will be wrinkled from storage and you should take it to your local dry cleaner before wearing ************ All items sold are finds sourced from estate sales and thrift stores in the Hollywood area of Southern California.
