Description: For all those collectors of pastels who attempt to purchase at least one painting from an artist referenced in June Rhodes' book, "The Power of Pastels", for your consideration is a lovely pastel by Edwin A Gates (1875 - 1950). The pastels utilized by Gates in his paintings are distinctive and uncommon. The coloring is typically more vibrant and eye catching. Here, the artist depicts a singular farm home with classic red roof in the background near a blue waterway and a rolling hill. White puffy clouds dance in the sky. A very common and desirable image that adorned family homes in the first part of the 20th century. Signed in the lower right, "Gates". This picturesque pastel is housed in a traditional wooden frame. The frame has been re-touched, acid free backing applied, new matting utilized and the glass cleaned. The painting sparkles like new. You will not be disappointed. With the acid free backing, the artwork should last for another 75 years. The image size is approximately 6" by 23.5" though some of it is obscured by the mat. The framed dimensions are 10.5 inches by 28.5 inches. A quality painting for an inexpensive price. Inquiries are encouraged.
