Description: This listing is for a unique vintage copper batik stamp, used by Indonesian craftsmen to apply wax resist to fabric before dying. Batik tjaps (pronounced "chops" in English) are traditionally used to produce the intricate detail on fabric designs. The copper tools are dipped in molten beeswax and stamped onto the fabric hundred of times, before the dyeing process. The stamps are made by specialized craftsmen who cut, bend and weld the copper strips into their desired design. Each batik tjap is a work of art in itself. This item shows some rust and wear on the handle, as shown in pictures. There are some remnants of aluminum foil that seems to have been wrapped around some parts by a previous user. It can be picked loose with a toothpick but i have not devoted the time to doing so. I have also not attempted to clean or polish the copper much since I know that some collectors appreciate the patina of the old metal. Shipping will be via USPS Ground Advantage Thanks for looking, and have a wonderful day!
