The leather is not damaged, scratched or torn and is soft and supple. ONE OF THE HINGE SCREWS WAS LOST AND MY HUSBAND REPLACED IT WITH A REGULAR SCREW. IT WORKS WELL AND IS NOT VISIBLE TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE BAG. THE SILVER SCREW SHOWN THREE TIMES IN THE BOTTOM PHOTOS IS THE ONE THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED. I'VE HAD NO ISSUES WITH ITS FUNCTIONALITY.
