Vintage 80s Handmade Sunbonnet Sue Calico Patchwork Appliqué Quilt

Description: Southern Bonnet Belle Quilt Twin XL to Full Size Shown displayed on a queen size bed, and it’s small, shown over another blanket This Kentucky made coverlet style handmade blanket is a whimsical take on the iconic Americana Sunbonnet Sue pattern. “That girl with the bonnet”, Sunbonnet Sue, Dutch Doll, Bonnie Bonnet, Sun Bonnet Babies… whatever the block pattern is called, she’s a classic and gained a renewed popularity in the 1970s, often along side Holly Hobbie. This quilt I believe dates back to the 1970s / 1980s, as most of the appliquéd patches are made from feed sack calico cottons. The main color the quilt is an antique ivory flour sack material, and each of the blocks is a different novelty print - most likely up cycled from outgrown children’s clothing. The prints range from prairie style florals, traditional chinoiserie style prints, and romantic Gunne Sax era cottage florals. The blocks are made up of machine appliqué, cotton patchwork in solids accenting the unique prints, and hand embroidery. What makes this special: I included a close up of where this quilt was signed by the maker in the corner. Condition: Overall, see photos for the variation in the coloring of the background. This material is most likely different flour sacks from the era, so there’s some variance between shades of ivory and softer white, and some areas that look as if they have faint spotting. This piece has been lovingly restored, adding hand stitching, reinforcing some of the aged stitches that had wear. This piece has no holes, or damage to note.
