Description: Interesting & collectable Victorian sterling silver agricultural ploughing prize medal awarded over 150 years ago in 1863. The front of the medal depicts a ploughman with two horses in a rural setting, all in high relief. Unfortunately some of the embossing on the obverse is obscured by the solder residue where a pin badge had once been fitted but these medals were quite common in Scotland at this time so the medal may have been awarded in Scotland. The presentation inscription reads: "TO John Forrest EASTFIELD 1863" Weight: 28.9 gm. Diameter: 35 mm. The medal is not hallmarked due to its age but has been tested for sterling silver. Summary: Early agricultural prize medals are very collectable & this example has a great look with an attractive age-worn patina. Good luck!
