Originally the home tookcare of children orphaned by the Civil War but it continued its work for almost100 years. By 1890, the home was famous for its Boys Band that touredPennsylvania and surrounding states. By 1923, when this little music book wasprinted, the Boys Band was still going strong. The home’s enrollment was 300that year. The school educated orphans and abandoned children from kindergartento third year in high school. This is a song book from 1923. It’s called “Whileit is Day” and offered such addition songs as “Children’s Day,” “Youth is aSummer Day,” and “A Place for All.” The front cover shows three of the orphansthe year, the original home and an idyllic drawing of the farm.
