Description: Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall, 1964.VG condition hardcover, first American edition stated, translated from French, 6" by 9", 195 pages plus index, has prior owner stamp, some wear to end and edges, dust jacket is complete but good only, as someone cello-taped the edges of the jacket which tape has browned over the years, tape has left some marks on endpapers as well.General Mikhail Tukhachevsky was arrested on May 22, 1937 and charged, along with seven other Red Army commanders, with the creation of a "right-wing-Trotskyist" military conspiracy and espionage for Nazi Germany, based on confessions obtained from other arrested officers."(Wikipedia) He, along with 6 other Generals and a host of other officers were tried in secret and executed as part of a wide ranging purge by Stalin which weakened the Russian military at critical point in its history. After the fall of the Soviet Union, it was proven that Stalin's minions had fabricated the information used against the alleged conspirators, and that their confessions were the result of torture.
