Description: Book Collectors Association, Inc, 1934,Good condition former library book, some markings otherwise unworn, without dust jacket, hardcover, aproximately 8" by 5.5", 258 pages, this translation ascribed to Oscar Wilde, though some dispute it.The Satyricon, Satyricon liber or Satyrica, is a Latin work of fiction believed to have been written by Gaius Petronius in the late 1st century AD....The work contains a mixture of prose and verse...serious and comic elements; and erotic and decadent passages....The surviving sections of the original (much longer) text detail the bizarre exploits of the narrator, Encolpius, and his (possible) slave Giton, a handsome sixteen-year-old boy. It is the second most fully preserved Roman novel." (Wikipedia) The publisher of this version had an interesting back story. Mark Jacobs published under this name, also Eugenics Publishing and The American Biological Society, essentially trying to sneak nude images and pornographic writing past the vigorous censors of the era, this was the more respectable end of his publishing empire.
