The companies were founded by William David Moffat about 1912. Originally a weekly, it was later published twice a month and each issue was published on one specific theme. It was purchased by Crowell Publishing Co. in 1921. When Moffatt retired in 1929, the magazine changed format and began publishing articles on many topics in one issue, using famous authors. The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature stopped indexing the magazine in December 1930. The January 1931 issue is the last known issue.
