Description: Maker: This set of 4 lovely lunch plates is by the legendary English firm Crescent China, the company formed by George Jones in Stoke-on-Trent in 1861 as George Jones & Co. In 1873, his sons joined the business and it was renamed George Jones & Sons. The Crescent China trademark was registered the same year and in 1907, the company was formally renamed Crescent China. It went out of business in 1957. Design: The beautiful scalloped pattern - called Olde English - features a thin blue band around sprays of pink and purple flowers against a pure white background of thin and translucent white bone china. Age: A black Crescent China mark appears on the back of each plate in this set. This mark was in use between 1891 and 1921 and indicates that the set was produced by George Jones & Sons for the iconic Chicago department store Marshall Field. Source: the potteries.org. Size: The plates are 9 1/4 inches wide and together weigh 3 pounds 6 ounces. Condition: They are in overall excellent condition with no nicks, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or wear. Each has a few faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light and one has a small chip on the back - it's shown in the photo with the penny and is not visible when the plate is on display or in use. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
