Sam Sixkiller Deputy US Marshal Native American Cherokee custom 12" figure

Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating a real American hero and prominent Native American of the Old West, Sam Sixkiller. Sixkiller was born sometime in 1842. His mother was a white woman named Pamela Whaley. Sam's father was a Cherokee Indian named Red Bird Sixkiller. Legend has it that the Sixkiller name, came during a battle between Creeks and Cherokees. An ancestor of Sam's is said to have killed six men in battle before he died. The name was passed down through the family from then on. Sam would fight during the Civil War first on the Confederate side of the conflict. Sam later fought side by side with his father on the side of the Union. In 1875 Sam Sixkiller became the High Sheriff of the Cherokee Nation as well as Warden of the National Penitentiary. Sam was also a deputy US Marshal in the Indian Territory. Sixkiller's position as High Sheriff afforded him access in places most lawmen were unable to follow fugitives. Sixkiller was also named 1st Captain of the Indian Police which gave him command of forty men. They were stationed in Muskogee (Indian Territory). Muskogee was one of the deadliest towns of the old West. Sixkiller's main problems were bootleggers, cattle rustlers, murderers, rapists, thieves, squatters, train robbers, card sharps, and prostitutes. He was very efficient at his job. The biggest badman that Sixkiller brought down was Dick Glass. Glass had a gang of horse thieves and bootleggers. Glass and his gang had a load of illegal whiskey and stolen horses they had acquired in Texas. The gang crossed the Red River intent on selling the horses and whiskey for a substantial profit. Sam Sixkiller organized a group of men including noted lawman Charles LeFlore. The group intended to ambush Glass and his gang at Colbert in the Chickasaw Nation. When Glass realized he and his gang fell into Sixkiller's trap, Glass went for his gun. Sixkiller killed Glass before he could draw. The rest of the gang was either killed or arrested during the shootout. Sam Sixkiller died Christmas Eve 1886. He went into Muskogee to pick up medicine. Two men ambushed Sixkiller over a grievance they had from a previous confrontation. Sixkiller managed to knock away the gun of one man but the other shot him multiple times. The ambushers were never found but the belief is that they were dealt with by Sixkiller's son or brother. Sam Sixkiller was one of the most colorful characters of the old West. Please note while this figure does not look exactly like Sam Sixkiller, there is a bit of a resemblance. Figure designed mainly for display purposes for the wild west fan. This would make a nice addition to any collection. sold as is. stand included. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
