ROY ROGERS - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH CO-SIGNED BY: IRON EYES CODY - HFSID 269515 ROY ROGERS and IRON EYES CODY Black and white publicity photograph of Roy Rogers and Iron Eyes Cody in an Indian encampment. Photograph signed: "Roy Rogers". B/w, 10x8. Iron Eyes Cody has seemed to identify himself in this movie still ("Ista/Mozas"), but has not signed his name, explaining across the top: "In sitting here with many actors- they say sign only one./Sorry." He was probably given this photograph to sign at an autograph-signing convention. A founding member of the Western music group, Sons of the Pioneers (1934), ROY ROGERS (1911-1998) broke into films as a singing cowboy the following year. Beginning in 1938, he had starring roles in dozens of Western films. His horse was Trigger, his frequent sidekick Gabby Hayes, and his frequent co-star Dale Evans, whom he married in 1947. He starred in his own TV series (1951-1957). A devoted husband and father, Rogers was also a successful businessman with wide-ranging holdings, including a TV production company, a restaurant chain and many Western products. Roy Rogers and Iron Eyes Cody appeared together in seven Westerns: Colorado (1940), Young Bill Hickock (1940), Young Buffalo Bill (1940), In Old Cheyenne (1941), Under Nevada Skies (1946), North of the Great Divide (1950) and Son of Paleface (1952). IRON EYES CODY (1907-1999) appeared in over 100 films and more than 35 television series as an American Indian but his name at birth was Espera DeCorti (he was the son of two first generation Italian immigrants). Cody, who appeared in a number of films with Roy Rogers, including Young Bill Hickock, Young Buffalo Bill, In Old Cheyenne, Under Nevada Skies, North of the Great Divide, Son of Paleface and Alias Jesse James, was best known as the Indian who sheds a tear for a blighted American environment in the "Keep America Beautiful" television ads that ran from 1971 into the 1980s.
