Description: **Due to our current Postal strike, I’ll be unavailable for a period of time but will get back to you soon after. Thank you for understanding. LB** WELCOME! WELCOME TO YOINE SHAGAL'S INN! 'Tis the season for snow-covered Transylvanian landscapes... I am selling my FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS hand-made illuminated 3D DIORAMA with a backlit all-original movie clips frame at an incredible starting price, with no reserve (the movie frame is worth more than the starting price of this auction alone). Here is all you get, with some instructions on how to make it work: 1. You get the 3D display on a rugged metal frame ready to be hanged on the wall. 2. Two LED lights with remote and batteries are included.3. A backlit frame with original 35mm clips showing some great scenes from the classic film. Clips are a bit brownish due to the passage of time.4. A cardboard piece of the French poster showing the actual Dance of the Vampires. Notes:A. LED lights of the display are activated by the remote or by pressing on them, while the backlit 35mm movie clips are turned on by pushing on the sides of the frame itself, which activates the three light bars taped behind it. Two (or three) little pushes on the frame and you get a real light show in the dark. The one frame at the bottom with the tiny FVK Frazetta poster is NOT backlit. B. This is handmade, hence not perfect. You might need to adjust a few things, straighten up the foam cores, reposition the cotton puffs that simulate snow, etc. especially after shipping, but I will pack it well so it is kept at a minimum. C. Batteries for the display lights are changed by removing the two little LED light pucks (unattached on the display shelf) and replacing them individually, while those for the 35mm frame lights are changed by sliding the removable tabs atop the three light bars taped behind the frame, which gives easy access to the batteries. I have provided an easy access between the tape strips to slide the tabs. D. 3D diorama is made of light metal and needs to be screwed on the wall, while the frame, though heavier, is installed like a regular frame. Who are the Fearless Vampire Killers and why do they matter in the movie vampire Metaverse? Dance of the Vampires (FVK) may be the most fairy tale-like vampire film ever made. Here is why. It is a visual feast for the eyes, mixing both blood and snow, red and white, starting off with the most gorgeous image transition in vampire movie history, in which our "killers" are magically superimposed from the full moon to a Transylvanian mountain road, in a horse carriage. We soon discover that our fearless duo is really made up of one vampire hunter with his clueless (and very much fearful) assistant, who throw themselves head first into vampire country without any fear of the consequences. Professor Abronsius may not be any Van Helsing, but he is nevertheless very endearing and fond of his one and only disciple, Alfred, despite his clumsy ways. They are both way over their heads in their quest, something we realize as early as when Koukol the hunchback kicks Polanski's butt! What a disgrace, considering how low hunchbacks are in the many layers of social classes woven into the brilliant script... What is the impact FVK has had on me, both as a horror movie, with its visceral horrific elements, and as a comedy, as is first evidenced by the original US Frazetta poster? As a kid, I remember shivering and shaking throughout most of the movie, starting with the surrealistic way Polanski makes his ugly vampire count with an oversized set of fangs drop down (more like float down) a hatch to bite and kidnap a beautiful young woman, whom I later learned was horribly butchered by real-life monsters, adding prophecy to the obscenity of it. In those pre-streaming days, scarcity produced intensity. You really felt the tension when the director wanted you to feel it because you went along for the ride - you weren't as inundated with all the Blades, Underworlds and Twilights we can feast on in our contemporary vampiric buffet. FVK is a true cult classic, but a cult film does not become a classic overnight. When it first came out, FVK was not a hit in the US, but a fairly good one in Europe. This was mainly due to the fact that that MGM felt it needed a dumbing down overhaul because audiences might find it either too long or too boring, or both (...). They cut twenty minutes of precious material, re-dubbed some scenes, added silly sounds here and there, and vomited it onto US audiences, who for obvious reasons didn't grasp the richness of its Gothic mood, with its beautiful wailing voices echoing in the castle corridors, the majesty of its sets (they ACTUALLY built real castle exteriors in Italy), as well as the incredible talent of its actors, production designer and director. The dance scene alone, choreographed by Fiddler on the Roof's Tutte Lemkow, is a cinematic tour de force. It is a true masterpiece of the macabre, whose production values are at par with most mainstream movies of its time (just for the million dollar budget alone) and the first to successfully marry horror with humour at such a grand scale. FVK has long been falsely accused of being simple slapstick by film critic wannabes, but the movie's comedy works well in relieving the tension felt by the horror (or disgust) of some traumatic scenes, such as when the hunchback kills a wolf and wipes the blood off his mouth or when Alfred screams like a girl after seeing the blood coming out of the vampire's mouth through the keyhole... You had to be sitting down with a live audience in the sixties (with the full-length version), in a filled-up theatre, to see and hear that both tension and relief actually worked! All in all, FVK's dark beauty can only be appreciated in its full version, without silliness and stupid add-ons. I promise you will hear Komeda's music as you lose yourself in my diorama and enjoy sleepwalking about on the castle battlements with our two fearless vampire hunters. Sweet nightmares everyone! Thank you for looking - I have been a trustworthy eBay member for nearly 20 years and intend to be here till the Second Coming ;-D), so bid in full confidence. I pack very well and ship very quickly - Have no fear, LB is here!NOTE that I sell only in Canada and the USA. Cheers and God bless! Lebaron
