Alan Hale's performance as Little John was so popular with audiences that he was asked to play the character again in both The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) and Rogues of Sherwood Forest (1950), making him the actor to have played the same role for the longest period of time in film history. Robin Hood would be honored with the first-ever gala premiere in Hollywood, held at the newly-opened Grauman's Egyptian Theater.
