A working set in this condition is rare. There are two light dings on the barrel of the pencil but the pen is free of defects. The pencil dings are shown in the last two photos. The Vac-fil system has been restored by Gerry Berg, one of the best Vac-fil men, and the nib was tuned by me for smooth writing and proper ink flow. Please see the photo showing the pen on writing samples. The gift case is in good condition, and I will include a photocopy of an original Sheaffer Vac-fil instructions leaflet. This Version of the Tuckaway Sheaffer produced the Tuckaway model in 1941, a lever-filled version, and in 1942 added the Vac-fil version, like this example. The pen was intended to fit perfectly in a gentleman's vest or jacket side pocket or a lady's purse. Though only 4 inches in length, the cap posted on barrel threads to make a comfortable length of 5 1/8" for writing. This configuration is shown in Photos 7 and 8. All restorations include disassembly, cleaning, replacement of all seals, smoothing and adjusting the nib, refinishing the plastic and gold-filled surfaces, filling the pen with ink (not just dipping) and producing multiple writing samples over 2 days (like the ones in the photos).
