Model 1911 ball rounds were first manufactured at Frankford Arsenal starting in August 1911. By 1940 it was apparent that additional amounts of ammunition would be needed should the U.S, enter the war. Remington Arms Company was one of several commercial plants that were expanded during the war to handle the large number of government and foreign contracts. During the crucial period from late 1941 to early 1942, this company and Frankford Arsenal carried much of the production load for small arms ammunition until the new plants could be completed. Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 3 unassembled cartons, two early war 20-round with dividers and labels, and one late war 50-round carton. The 20 round carton labels represent a 1941 production lot that used the early "REM" headstamp, and a 1942 production lot that used the later "RA" headstamp. The 50 round carton represents a 1945 production lot that was used to replace the Evansville-Chrysler production that had been reduced. The cartons, dividers and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions.
