They were match-play chips, which usually aren't worth any "real cash" but these ones were! They were usually given away by Bob Stupak as part of a mixed-bag of promos to lure tourists to his property. Strangely, you could cash them in right away for the odd value of $6.25 without playing any games, or you could "let it ride" on the tables for a value of $25. There are many stories of people trying to exploit Bob Stupak's promotional offers, some of which ended up being fined by the Nevada Gaming Board for misleading advertising, all based on chips like these. This is an incredible collectible piece of Las Vegas gaming history! Bob Stupak was the king of promotions, doing everything he could to take Vegas by storm. His crazy offers and contests would pull people off the strip in droves to try their luck at free slot spins and match play deals that were too good to believe. He also gave away "free vacations" that had tourists clamoring to stay at his property. He eventually grew Vegas World to the point he wanted to erect a giant tower and have King Kong scale up the side in a thrilling ride. It seemed no attraction was too "out there" for Bob to give it a whirl. Perhaps one of the best stories ever written that truly encapsulates what it was like to be a "regular" at Bob Stupak's Vegas World is this story from Big Empire Stupak overextended himself on the tower and lost control of Vegas World. Bob Stupak's dream of building the Vegas World tower was partially realized in that after it was sold to new owners the structure became what is now known today as Stratosphere (STRAT) Hotel and Casino.
