Description: A relief carving of a woman carrying a cage of chickens on her head with a view of what is surely Mount Vesuvius in the background. I believe The material is volcanic stone such as tuff or volcanic breccia. The piece is signed, something like "Vadouro". There's a note on the back of the oval frame, saying that this piece was brought back from Italy after World War II. The carving measures 5 in by 4.25 in. The oval frame is approximately 12 in x 9.5 in. The frame is plastic but not immediately recognizable as such and not unattractive. The carving may have been an antique at the time it was acquired during or after World War II hence "Possible Grand Tour Souvenir", or it may be a piece that was made in the 1940's.
