This is an original, one-of-kind painting by Contemporary Los Angeles Artist Steve Sas Schwartz Community 4202325 1/2" x 25 1/2" x 3 1/4"acrylic, enamel, blister packs on wood Steve Sas Schwartz makes purist, modernist abstractions with a color palette based upon Mondrian’s DeStijl art movement, and a surface created by recycling plastic packaging. His work is a contemporary form of recycling that harkens back to 1906 and Picasso’s first collages made with newspaper scraps, napkins and matchbooks — collage was the first recycling. This piece has recently become available, and is a strong example of this period. As Schwartz says, “I love how the architecture of the blister packs (the plastic packaging that makes up the painting surface) seem to create their own community when played with in a certain way. To me they look like overviews of neighborhoods that include housing areas, stadiums, industrial scenarios — at least this is what these arrangements suggest to me. The blister packs are housing for the products they bring to sell. They protect them like a house, and yet are meant to be invisible. And discarded. All for a transaction. This to me shows how we live in the products we sell, because if you scale the paintings you get homes, avenues, and so on.” The overlay of geometric shapes shows Schwartz’s love for aggravated surfaces, and his current obsession with primary colors, and color used as a form of therapy and balance in a cockeyed world.
