Description: The artist, Nita Engle, was a very active member of the Michigan art community. She was thought to be a foremost leader among the most accomplished watercolor artists of her time. She was also a teacher of art, and an author of art related material, including a book that chronicles her work over many decades. She was born and lived much of her life in Michigan, with short stints (of inspiration) living in Alaska. The work in this listing is dramatic in color and in detail. To my eye I would classify this work as leaning towards the impressionistic style. Artists will sometimes employ that style to make the central focus that of greater clarity. I believe the artist has done exactly that, whereby the falling water becomes the center point of interest in this painting. There is much greater clarity there. And as the eye moves towards the trees and vegetation, the central focus that was sharp and clear becomes just a hint more impressionistic. It is masterful how the artist has accomplished that. She was a seasoned veteran of this discipline. This work was a very rare piece, in that I have not seen another for sale. I have priced it according to what her similar hand signed lithographs sell for unframed and without matting. this listing has all of that already. And the quality is excellent.
