Description: • Great Rug for a kids’ room or in front of a hearth or in front of the TV. • This Pure Wool Genuine Sheepskin Rug from New Zealand is in Excellent Condition. There does appear to be a slight water mark as well as a couple of other very small marks on the back of the rug. Speculation is that this is something that took place at the original tannery that made this rug because we do not recall any mishaps taking place with this rug over the last more than 35 years. Although this is a vintage rug, there are no unwelcome scents from this rug. It is a clean rug. • Manufactured by Maxwell Hay & Co. and sold by Bowron, Auckland, New Zealand. • This circular sheepskin rug with a Contrasting Brown Scallop Border measures approximately 4.5 Feet in Diameter. • This sheepskin rug was purchased from Bowron in 1988. • This luxurious and soft sheepskin “petal” rug would also be lovely in a baby’s or child’s room. • Bowron advises the following regarding their sheepskin products used for children and babies. "Our Babycare Sheepskins are extremely comfortable. They're soft and plush, making them a great surface for babies to play on. Our Babycare Sheepskins are also naturally hypoallergenic and stay free of dust mites, making them a good choice for babies with sensitive skin or allergies. Minor spills can be cleaned with a damp cloth.” • Although not referenced by Bowron, it makes sense that a young baby should always be watched over when placed on a dense, long wool fiber sheepskin. • The rug is made from white long wool and matched with a contrasting border of dark brown long wool. • Bowron New Zealand is no longer producing this more intricately designed “Petal” sheepskin rug. It is only possible to purchase this rare “Petal” rug in the secondary market. • Note that there can be variation in sheep’s wool. Sheep’s wool can be lightly curled or wavy. You can see this variation in some of the photos with this listing. Some parts of this sheepskin rug has curly fibers versus areas where the fibers are more straight. • This long wool sheepskin rug is dense and thick as well as silky to the touch. • With regard to the color of this rug, a natural tanning process is used that allows for the ivory white color of the rug to more closely resemble the natural creamy white color of sheep.
