Description: This huge drum is 33" tall and weighs 19 lbs. 7 oz., and comes with a handmade drumstick. The drumming sections are about 9x9", with the overall size about 10" x 11". One side of the drum has a handle on the bottom and top, which I did not include in the measurements. The wood has some flaws, most of which look to be from when it crafted. This drum has a lighter, duller sound, and not a more booming sound like some other Taos drums. I'm guessing it's because there is a 1.5" wide hole in the side (from a knot), a few inches down from the top. This drum also has a fair number of hairline cracks running vertical with the grain. One photo points out a cut in the rawhide on the side, which doesn't go all the way through. Both sides have some scuffed areas around the edge from coming in contact with the floor. The drumstick has a cut in the wood near the head. As it is handcrafted, I'm guessing this is from when they were cutting away the bark. This is one of five large/extra large drums I have for sale that came from an estate that still had a big inventory from when they had a southwest decor store, selling drums, pottery, wood carvings, southwest prints, etc. Based on the style of everything, it would have been late 80's or early 90's. Each drum is one of a kind, handcrafted out of a hollowed out log with rawhide stretched over the top and bottom and tightened with rawhide strands. They can be used as drums, but are large enough to be used as unique side tables. With the tall and skinny size of this drum, it would also be a unique stand for a vase or sculpture.
