Description: A lovely copy of this rare slipcased limited-edition of 2 volumes of architectural photography from legendary German fashion designer, photographer and creative director Karl Lagerfeld (1933 - 2019). The first volume covers Casa Malaparte on Capri, which many consider to be one of the most beautiful houses in the world. 'Modern Italian Architecture ' published by Steidl in Gottingen, Germany in 1998, 1st edition/1st printing as this limited-edition, the 2 volumes are large folio hardbacks (each measuring 12.5in x 10in), both volumes are unpaginated (but each has 56 pages), a mix of colour and b&w full-page photographs printed on the right-hand side of each volume only, no text save for a 1 page note from Karl Lagerfeld at the rear of each volume. This is the original limited-edition release of these books from 1998. A limitation sheet at the rear of each volume confirms that there was a run of 2500 copies (a reprint trade edition followed in 2001). Internally in fine condition with no inscriptions or markings. Externally in fine condition. The dustjackets are in near fine+ to fine condition, minor edge rubbing. The slipcase is in near fine condition, minor edgewear and various light marks. ** A lovely copy of this limited-edition of Karl Lagerfeld's under-rated photography. Quite uncommon to find today. I can see no other copies currently listed for sale on any site within the UK at present. A small number of copies globally on Ebay and elsewhere, starting around the £400 mark upwards ** From the renowned Karl Lagerfeld comes a beautifully slipcased collection of photographs documenting two feats of modernist Italian architecture. The first is Italian author Curzio Malaparte's Casa Malaparte, a 1937 villa built into a jutting cliff in Capri. With its antique beauty and singular character, Casa Malaparte was a fitting setting for Godard's 1963 Contempt. Lagerfeld used Polaroid transfers on a special paper to reproduce his 1997 photographs, which explores the home's interior. The second volume, The House in the Trees, focuses on an extraordinary building in a small village near Rome. On a small piece of land surrounded by dilapidated warehouses and uninhabited buildings sits La Casa Albero Nella Pineta di Fregene, designed by the architect Perugini in 1967. A pinnacle of experimental architecture, the wood, concrete and glass-enclosed space has very few doors, and Lagerfeld's photographs artfully document the subtle architectural splendour.
