JON NAAR ORIGINAL PHOTO STRASBURG GERMANY THREE BOYS STAMPED BETTY PARSONS

Description: Jon Naar (English, b. 1920)Untitiled, Strasburg, 1964 Gelatin silver 9-5/8 x 6-1/4 inches (24.4 x 15.9 cm) Photographer's copyright stamp on verso. There’s an inscription from Jon and Ruth to Betty. I have contacted Alex Naar, Jon’s son, who authenticated the photo and said in all likelihood the photos were given to a Betty Parsons by Ruth, Jon‘s wife and Alex‘s mother, who worked at Betty’s Gallery. Photo is mounted on hard board and has hanging bracket installed. Photo is in good condition with only minor corner wear. Jon Naar (May 5, 1920 – November 30, 2017) was an English-American author and photographer celebrated for his pioneering images of New York City graffiti in the 1970s, and for portraits of Andy Warhol and other celebrities. ⁣ This is one of 10 photos that was uncovered in a warehouse filled with art, furniture and lighting, collected from estates in NYC metro. A lot of loose paper, prints and paintings all in massive piles, unsorted and uncatalogued. The portfolio I’m showing you was discovered amongst these contents. No one has any idea if it’s original source, however the images do appear to be part of a single collection. Part of the collection is a postcard addressed to Betty Parsons from Judy Tompkins. Additionally, on the back of this Jon Naar photograph, there’s an inscription from Jon and Ruth to Betty. I have contacted Alex Naar, Jon’s son, who authenticated the photos and said in all likelihood the photos were given to a Betty Parsons by Ruth, Jon‘s wife and Alex‘s mother, who worked at Betty’s Gallery. I think it’s highly plausible that these photos were all property of Betty. Given her history and importance in the art world, it is pretty crazy to think that this was her personal collection.
