Description: How to Disappear(2023) - - -Acrylic, paper, ink, and found objects on framed-in-metal poster36.25w x 24.15h x 2.50 inches- - - **PLEASE NOTE: Frame is built in - this was started on the back of a framed-in-black-metal poster with lights that I painted over, again and again. The frame has some scuffs, holes, and marks - this is intentional as this piece is supposed to look weathered, worn, and full of history as it was made over a period of about 7 years. Since it was made on this poster, there is a slight warp and bend and it's not perfectly square (see pics).________________________________________________ Flying in from the ramparts, he whispers I think I just vanished for a sec. I’m reminded of a quote by Philip Guston: “When you're in the studio painting, there are a lot of people in there with you - your teachers, friends, painters from history, critics... and one by one if you're really painting, they walk out. And if you're really painting YOU walk out.” This piece was a culmination of influences ranging from Pollock’s all-over paintings to Jasper John’s use of objects, to which I added my own collage paint method. It developed over about 7 years, beginning in vertical orientation and switching to horizontal about halfway through, layers being added and shedded throughout. You can see and feel the history embedded in this piece - various old layers peek through along with rough spots where elements were sanded away.
