Carlo Hornung-Jensen (1882-1960) Educated at Academy Colarossi, Paris 1906. And at École natinal des beaux arts in 1907. Where he was a pupil of Gabriel Ferrier and Léon Bonnat. Hornung-Jensen finished his studies at the Royal Art Academy Copenhagen in 1901 and soon after joined the many young non French artists who moved to Paris to continue their studies, or exploring the early French Impressionists and the new French wave of modernism. During his time in Paris, Hornung-Jensen experienced a much free approach to art than his time at the Royal Academy and begun exploring plein-air painting. There he could capture the momentary and transient effects of sunlight. In Painting realistic scenes of modern life, he emphasized vivid overall effects rather than details. Upon his return to Denmark, Hornung-Jensen joined the Dyrehaven group and painted a series of impressionist landscapes from the forest area around Dyrehaven and portrayed the small country inns and taverns located in the forests. Around the 1930ties, Hornung-Jensen begun working for the Royal Academy where he sad in the Jury and functioned as a censor during the years 1934-1937. He also later served as chairman and main organizer for many art groups like: The kunstforeningen, Dansk Kunstnerslaegter, Otto Bache and Charlottenborg.
