Gospel Workers of America was organized in 1894 in Elgin, Pennsylvania. It was initially a Wesleyan Holiness organization and its leaders included Newton L. A. Eastman and L. T. Calkins. The 1900 and 1906 manuals affirm the following doctrines, among others: Baptism of the Holy Ghost and Fire; Laying on of Hands for the Receiving of the Holy Ghost. The 1914 manual includes an additional doctrine: Speaking in Other Tongues. Additional leaders identified in the 1914 manual include: H. H. Loomis, O. K. Wheelock, I. D. Hodgkins, R. H. Coburn, Etta S. Eastman, Frederick G. Mathews, Charles Lawrence, Morris Tankman, William H. Gray, Henry Bidwell, Henry Muntz, Robert Coburn, and Fred Woodruff.
