Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely French gilt bronze lidded jewelry casket box from Grand Tour era, c. 1880. The box is decorated with a stunning portrait painting on porcelain signed "Wagner" on lower right. The portrait is surrounded with an engraved bezel with fancy raised applied designs at each corner on a engraved textured background. The sides have an engraved classic design and there is a matching engraved band around the base that matches the bezel. The portrait is of a lovely young female with red roses in her long brown hair. The box opens with a tight hinge and the box opens and closes correctly. The interior of the box is lined with a silk fabric with a single rose in each medallion. The base has a solid textured brass/bronze panel marked "France". This box would most likely have been originally purchased by a wealthy traveler to Paris during the Grand Tour era of the 19th Century. Measures 1 5/8" high, 3 3/4" long and 3 1/4" wide. Weighs 9.3 ounces. The gilt bronze case and the painting on porcelain are both in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The interior is clean and intact.
