FOUR FRESHMEN (LP/Reissue) Freshmen Favorites. 1972. Capitol SM-743. VG+

Description: Here is the 1972 reissue of the original 1956 LP from The Four Freshmen called Favorites. This may be a stereo version because the label was using an S in front of the M-743 label. The cover does not actually use the name Four Freshmen, but that's what the original band name was. The reissue is on a yellow Capitol label, which was different from the original look. It took a long time to find out what year this was reissued and finally found it under a Capitol Records history of them all. It also comes with a 4-page pamphlet about them from The Community Concert Association. But there is a date of Season 1977-78 on the front bottom, so I don't know if this reissue is 1972 or maybe 1977, unless this pamphlet was added on by someone a few years later to the record for personal info. This band had many guys replace all the ones that passed away too soon, but always kept going! You can see the song titles on the photograph of the back cover or the 2 labels. The cover is in pretty good shape from 1972 except the song titles at the bottom area on the front cover has a couple of penned-in parenthesis on 2 songs. There is a light long whitish scratch along the right side of the red F block and it goes across the pant legs of the guy on the right side. Side 2 shows a very light ringwear starting at the upper middle top area, but very light. The side seam has wrinkles on it and it goes all the way down. A photo of that is here, too, of the bottom section. The inner sleeve is just a plain beige one. Side 1 of the album has some surface scratches on it in various areas and here are pictures of some of them. Side 2 has the same surface scratches, too, and some are in the matrix area, too. But these scratches did not cause any skips, pops, or crackles. I did hear a few light 'tics' in a couple of songs and here is an audio/video of 90-seconds so you can hear the sound quality and maybe you will hear the light 'tics' which is only a few times in a couple of areas. No major problem, but you can decide. I rate the cover as Very Good Plus (VG+) just due to the crinkled side seam. The vinyl gets a Very Good to Very Good Plus (VG+) for physical look, but also close to an Excellent for sound quality except for a few little light tics you may hear on a song or two. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Feel free to email me for more information on an item. No writing or stickers on the vinyl. No obvious scratches. Label: No writing or stickers and no fading of the label. NM-: Near Mint Minus - Similar to NM but will have some very light scratches on the vinyl not affecting the sound quality. No writing or stickers on label and no fading (or ringwear) on cover or label. EX: Excellent - Not quite a Goldmine Standard Listing, but being used by many now. Cover: No ink wear, minor creases to corners, no seam tears. Vinyl can have scratches, but not felt by your fingers. Sound quality must be mint. No more than 15% of the surface should have wear or scuffs on it. To me, EX is like a VG++. VG+: Very Good Plus - Similar to NM- except that on the label, there may be a sticker or writing, but it shows very little wear. There may be only a couple light surface scratches on the grooves, but do not affect the playback with noise or skips. You may only see these scratches if you put them under a bright light and really look for them. The cover might have light creasing or minor seam or corner wear, but still in great condition to show off. VG to VG-: Very Good to Very Good Minus - May not be that shiny anymore and you will see scratches without putting it under a bright light, but they still would not affect the quality of the playback. The sound quality is still pretty good, maybe a little noise, but not enough to detract from the listening experience. The label might have some fading around it, besides having stickers or writing. The cover may have obvious ringwear in the middle or around the perimeter of where the record was, maybe some side seam splits, or little tears at the top or side where the record goes back into. If less defects, then it's a VG. If it has all this just mentioned, then a VG-. G, G+: Good or Good Plus - It doesn't mean the vinyl is trashed. It plays though without skipping, but may have heavy noise or fuzz sound because of age, quality, or worn-down grooves. Heavy writing or stickers on the label, ringwear is very obvious on label and cover probably has seam splits. But, amazingly, if you have special audio LP recording software, you could probably clean up those crackles and fuzzes, if you want to create a CD of it for yourself. P: Poor - This is when the vinyl is warped to the point it warps the playback also. Or it's cracked, but it may or may not still play without a skip. If a picture sleeve is with it, this is torn or marked up bigtime. But someone may want to have it for nostalgia or even attempt to fix it. See my other listings for more great items!
