Description: This listing is for an incredible large Tyrannosaurus Rex vertebra personally found in the Lance Formation of Weston County, WY. The bone measures 18.5" in height and the processes are 12.5" across. The centrum is 8.25" tall and approximately 6" across and 6" deep and the entire specimen weighs 21lbs 10oz. The vertebra was found about 10 years ago in a sort of conglomerate channel deposit in Eastern Wyoming while on a trip with Paleo Prospectors. This site has produced a lot of other fossils in the past, mostly smaller teeth and claws but sometimes a large specimen like this pops up. Attached are photos of the site and exactly how this incredible large vertebra was found. The vertebra was prepped and professionally restored by Lauren McClain with Big Sky Fossils. She did a phenomenal job color and texture matching the process to the centrum. Part of the process was found with the vertebra and there are some photos of the vert as it was being cleaned, prepared and restored. The transverse processes are almost 100% restoration, neural is about 80% restored and pre-zygapophyses 90% restored, post is 50% restored. The centrum is nearly 100% natural which can be seen in the photos of the fossil pre restoration and how it was found. There are also other pieces of the process that are in the restored bone that are not pictured that were found with the vert, about 20 different pieces. Vertebra like this are rarely seen offered for sale, especially of this size, quality and professional level of cleaning and restoration. The vertebra appears to be from the very base of the tail just behind the hip and Lauren used known specimens from the BHIGR collection and scientific articles as references for the restoration. Fossil will ship UPS expedited with insurance. The Lance Formation dates back to the Late Cretaceous approximately 66-68 million years in age. It represent the coastline of an ancient sea that spanned across the middle of North American during much of the Mesozoic Era. That is why dinosaur remains are so common in the American West, those areas were the ancient floodplains of a seaway that no longer exists. Dinosaur like the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Pachycephalosaurus were part of this amazing ecosystem. Other dinosaur such as Edmontosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Struthiomimus and Oviraptorids existed here as well. And of course there were the Dromaeosaurs "Raptors) that inhabited this area and preyed upon these species such as Acheropraptor and Dakotaraptor.
