Description: Dwarfism in Victorian England - 1849-86 Original Magazine Illustrations A selection of three original pages cut from popular magazines of the day comprising: 1849 page from The Illustrated London News with an illustration of “The Friesland Dwarf” with a short account of his recent audience with Queen Victoria alongside. 1880 page from The Illustrated London News with an illustration of “The Pigmies in Piccadilly: Lucia Karate and General Mite, with the Exhibitor”, which has had the figure of General Tom Thumb (who was a well known personality at this time) superimposed for comparative purposes. The story underneath (and continuing on the reverse) explains that the pair had recently been “placed on exhibition” in the Piccadilly Hall, London, and explains their background as well as physical size/weight etc. 1886 front page from The Graphic titled “Brobdingnag and Lilliput Meet, Reception of Children by the Lord Mayor at the Juvenile Fancy Dress Ball at the Mansion House”. All approx. 280x400mm., the first with peripheral tear well clear of the illustration, overall in good condition.
