Description: DC COMICS DC Cinematic Universe DCU Confirmed Character KeyDEATHSTROKE First Titular Appearance: Deathstroke (Slade Wilson), The Terminator Introduced eleven years earlier by MARV WOLFMAN and GEORGE PEREZ in their sensational then-new series THE NEW TEEN TITANS #2 (1980), DEATHSTROKE THE TERMINATOR a.k.a. Slade Wilson was, from the start, "The Villain." A murder-for-hire killer with abilities akin to a Super Soldier, Deathstroke was more than a match for ROBIN, the leader of the Teen Titans -- and the rest of the Titans as well, despite the power sets of Wonder Girl, Starfire, Kid Flash and the rest. Deathstroke wouldn't confine himself to New Teen Titans, however, and he quickly became one of the DC Universe's most popular and most formidable villains. Soon, the Justice League itself would count Deathstroke among its greatest nemeses, and other teams -- from clandestine organizations Checkmate and HIVE and villainous teams like the Injustice Society to those that blurred the lines like the SUICIDE SQUAD -- counted Deathstroke among their most powerful members. Before the 1980's were over, Deathstroke's popularity had grown to such an extent that the character spawned an "off-spring" named "Wade" instead of "Slade" and who followed in his "father's" footsteps as a Merc for Hire. His name, of course, was DEADPOOL. It wasn't long after Deadpool's emergence in Marvel's comics that Deathstroke, at long last, earned his own Self-Titled Solo Series. Dropping in 1991, Deathstroke The Terminator #1 kicked-off a very successful 60-issue five year run, from 1991-1996. In the decades since, Deathstroke has had a tremendously successful career in comics and beyond them, as he's been featured in multiple live-action productions, feature films, cartoons and video games. And despite being promised yet never given a chance to square off against BATMAN in his own Snyder-verse production post-Justice League (2017), DEATHSTROKE has been given another turn at "bat" thanks to James Gunn's new cinematic DC Universe. Gunn announced in late 2024 that Deathstroke, along with BANE, would star in a villains film being developed for the new DCU, which many have speculated might end up being a SECRET SIX film akin to Marvel's Thunderbolts or perhaps as a replacement to DC's Suicide Squad franchise. No matter the final product, Gunn has proclaimed Deathstroke is on his way to live-action, and that's enough for any fan to give their collection exactly what it deserves -- today!
