Description: Up for sale is this fantastic dated 1856 oversized cup and saucer with a highly detailed hand painted image of the US sailing ship Rowena. Rowena was a 4 mast ship laid down in 1839. The beautiful ship sailed to many ports around the world. The one of a kind cup and saucer we are selling has an image of the Rowena on the open sea, flying the US flag. Four souls are visible on the deck of the boat. The ship is sailing full mast. On the bottom of the cup it says "ROWENA". The saucer says "E.R. Burrons 1856". I could not find any information on this individual. The set is trimmed in heavy gold. The cup measures about 5 1/2 inches wide (including handle) and 3 3/4 inches tall. The saucer measures about 6 5/8 inches in diameter. It is signed on the bottom of the cup, in script, "J. G. Hauthal & Co" for the German manufacturer. The set is in nice condition with no chips, cracks or crazing Colors are clear and bright and gold trim is solid. A great and rare set in nice shape!! Please see our other fine porcelains on eBay!!
