Description: Hibiscus acetosella, the cranberry hibiscus, African rosemallow or False Roselle, is a flowering plant of the genus Hibiscus or rosemallow. It is a somewhat upright, shrubby plant that is grown mainly for its flashy foliage, which can come in stunning shades of copper and burgundy that rival red maples. It can appear tropical and exotic with colorful, sometimes plate-sized flowers, however, Hibiscus acetosella is grown for its colorful, ornamental leaves. There are a lot of things to love about the Cranberry Hibiscus. This can be a striking specimen in the garden, with its deep cranberry leaves and fat pink blossoms in the winter. Its slightly pungent young leaves add a purple color and nutrition when used sparingly in a salad - the leaves do contain some oxalic acid - so don't overdo it. Its blossoms can be used to turn lemonade a deep pink. You will receive a starter plant with at least two (2) stems, ready to place in a container or ground. The plant will be shipped with bare roots to reduce shipping charges. Its roots will be kept moistened and wrapped for transit.
