Description: Conophytum meyeri (Cone Plant) Naturally occurring in a winter rainfall area of South Africa, this little Cone Plant requires water from autumn to spring, with no water in the summer, to allow the plants to go completely dormant. Blooming usually occurs in autumn, and the flowers of C. meyeri are a bright yellow. Preferring an east-facing position, they like morning sun with afternoon shade, and also to be shaded when dormant. (Excess heat while dormant will be detrimental.) The soil should be lightly acidic and well-drained, that is preferably a sandy, gravelly clay mixed with ample compost. My plants are grown in an unheated greenhouse, in USDA Zone 9b, and receive temperatures at night in the mid to upper 30s in winter, without harm. The mother plant shown is over 30 years old! This offering is for one very well-rooted and established, blooming-size, multi-lead plant in a 2 1/4" pot. Shipped in pot. Similar to (or larger than) what may be seen in the last photo.
