Description: Parts Only wind up key missing Thorens Music Box ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unique Thorens music box from the 1940s. Music box is a circular disk, approximately 2.5" in diameter, with a hooked lever coming out of one side. Music box plays 'Happy Birthday' and was designed to be placed inside of a cooked birthday cake. When cake is cut, knife pushes down on the lever and starts the playing of 'Happy Birthday'! The lever has a small hole at the end for tying a piece of thread through ~ thread can be positioned on plate to help indicate placement of lever. The housing of the music box is aluminum with 'THORENS Switzerland Pat. App. For' embossed on it. Winder appears to be brass, Bottom of music box is wood embossed with 'Thorens Inc, New Hyde Park, NY'. 'Made in Switzerland' and 'Happy Birthday' are both stamped on the bottom. Aluminum housing has some surface scratching, 'Happy Birthday' music can be a bit sluggish or intermittent. Music box comes in the box it was originally shipped in with postal label from H.A. Johnson Co. Label reads 'Food products and equipment for bakers, confectioners, restaurants and institutions. 221-227 State Street Boston, MA' Post mark on box is 1942.
