Description: Antique 13" Pharmacy Apothecary Drug Store 13" Show Globe 2-Pc. Display Bottle This is an Edwardian Era Apothecary Drug Store 2-Piece Stacking Show Globe Window Display Bottle Set. These bottles once held color coded fluids to be displayed in your local pharmacy to let folks know about local health concerns. According to the, "California Pharmacists Association: “Upon entering a new town, visitors would look to the [apothecary] show-globe in the drug store window to see which color liquid it contained. Red indicated the town was besieged by an epidemic." Other colors used included Green; meaning everything was OK, and the now infamous, (Barber shop) Blue & Red combination, which meant that fresh leeches were now available for your medical needs!" (You couldn't make that up!) This original 19th century assemblage measures approximately 13" tall X 3 3/8" wide, fully assembled; and this set remains in excellent condition. Hardly any interior hazing discoloration to either vessel, as these have been well preserved however you can see a line in the lower vessel which I did not try to clean. Both antique vessels were created with the old 3-piece mold manufacturing process.. No cracks, chips and I did not see any serious flea bite areas in the lower vessel which usually happened from the stoppers being returned to their places. I recently sold my other vessel exactly like this one and think this one is in better condition. The upper vessel does have a slight lean to it when turned to the side as show in the pictures. I think this is a beautiful example of these jars. These heavily used items usually do not survive after decades of use, they were usually just discarded.
