Very Good-Excellent overall vintage condition hand carved/hand painted Italian 'Anri' wood figure wine stopper, still with its original vintage cork. It features an old woman or a wino, characteristic of early 20th c Italian rural peasants/country folk. The carved figure has a kinetic, hinged jaw, activated & moved by an attached wood finger lever, found in the figure's back. The head tilts back, opening the mouth when the wood back lever is pulled down, drawing a string that's attached to the jaw. The human comedy, light-heartedness & comic nature of the carving is quite clear & evident. A very whimsical piece to add to any collection! I have never seen one exactly like this.
