Description: Presented is an unequalled pair of tazzas created by Dominick and Haff, New York, circa 1918; Dominick and Haff was renowned for its innovative designs in the higher styles of the 19th century-- particularly, Egyptian Revival and Japanesque; Some of the firm's design concepts were of such significance that other companies utilized them-- as was the case, with the 1887 "etched fish" motif which Tiffany & Co. implemented in designing their "Trout Vase" for the 1893 Chicago Wold Exposition; Each of lobed circular form with convex plateau, the rim decorated with an egg-and-dart motif and having four embossed griffins surrounded by scrolling foliage, raised above a bulbous stem having two cartouches surrounded by floral festoons, raised on a square base decorated with four more griffins and surrounding scrolling foliage, raised on paw feet; With one cartouche on each monogrammed "F" for Fisher; Excellent condition save for the expected age-wear and a soft impression to the field of one; Exceptionally thick gauge silver; Height: 7 1/2"; Diameter: 10"; Weight and impressive : 109 3/10 STANDARD OUNCES ( 3,097 grams) Provenance: From the estate of Fredrick and Bertha Fisher in Detroit. In 1916, the company became the Fisher Body Corporation manufacturing automobile bodies for Ford, Packard, Studebaker, Chevrolet, EMF, Elmore and others. In 1918, Fred Fisher and his family moved into their newly constructed Renaissance-revival mansion; thus, our circa-date attribution. The accompanying Dominick and Haff centerpiece bowl from the same estate sold in 2018 for $15,000. Historic guests at the mansion are said to have included Henry Ford and President Franklin D.
