Description: Offered here is this Amazing Antique Wooden Bench. I am unsure of the actual age of the bench; however, I would date it to the mid to late 19th Century. It still has a partial label on the bottom and was made in Belgium. The carving on this piece is exquisite. The details are absolutely amazing, and the photos do not do it justice. The wood on the back of the bench is unfortunately splitting in a few places, with several vertical splits and one or two horizontal splits towards the top. It is structurally sound, however. The needlepoint upholstered, handmade seat is in good condition, with no holes or tears in the fabric, but it is a little faded from age, and does need to be cleaned and dusted. The bench seat opens for storage, and the key for the lock is present and included. The lock works well. The bench has armrests on each end, which also have beautiful carved details. I am unsure of the type of wood that this bench is made from but would say that it is most likely walnut or mahogany. It is hard and heavy. The bench does have some light surface scratches and some dings on it, which would be typical of a piece of furniture that has been around for over a century. The panels in the front of the seat are also beginning to split slightly. There is a small piece of trim at the side of the back that has come loose and will need to be put back on. The hardware on the bench and the key are original. The bench is 57” tall, 65” wide, 20.25” wide at the seat, 18” high at the seat, 19” deep at the seat. This is a gorgeous piece of craftsmanship, a MUST HAVE for any Victorian collection.
