Paul Daniel Frehley - Apr 27, 1951) is an American musician, best known as the original lead guitarist & co-founding member of the hard rock band Kiss. He designed the band's double-lightning-bolt logo (which was polished up by bandmate Paul Stanley). When Kiss decided to paint their faces & adopt stage personas to match their makeup & costumes for live performances, Frehley chose to paint silver stars around his eyes & took on the persona of “Space Ace” (also known as “The Spaceman”). He originally played with the band from ‘73-‘82. After departing, he formed his band “Frehley's Comet” & released 2 albums, then embarked on a solo career. He rejoined Kiss from ’96-2002. Frehley is noted for his aggressive, atmospheric & melodic guitar playing & use of "special effects" guitars (including a Gibson Les Paul guitar that emits smoke from the neck humbucker pickup & produces spinning pyrotechnics, as well as a custom Les Paul that emits light based on song tempo). Guitar World magazine ranked him as the 14th Greatest Metal Guitarist of All Time. Frehley was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 as a member of Kiss.
