This is a historic key from early on in automotive history. It was made prior to Independent Lock Co. changing their name to ILCO in the 1950's. When possible, I have listed the vehicles associated with the blank and any available key code series. Keys fitting 1920's vehicles are really tough, there is no longer a lot of documentation. I have original catalogs showing some info on this key and have passed it along when available. This key was originally made by YALE, and then later reproduced by other companys. It is fairly well documented that LINCOLN used this key as their ignition key during a stretch from 1925 through 1932. It is unclear if it also worked on doors or transmission locks. The connection to Packard in the 1920's seems to be confirmed as well. Buick used it for transmission locks. Pierce Arrow used it for Ignitions 1925 through 1933. Marmon made a logo key with this keyway from 1929-1934. This was a master blank for some pre-WWII Rolls Royce and Bentley vehicles from approx. 1920 through the mid 1930's. It is a direct replacement for any key with the part numbers 997X, 997DB, or Y-5. Yale has traditionally been the key maker for Rolls/Bentley. My apologies to the pre-1940's Rolls owners....ebay doesn't list ANY Rolls models prior to 1940 (!) in their compatibility tables so I could not include them. Please note Rolls/Bentley also used a more commonly used 62JB key during this time that is similar....see my ebay store for that one. There was also a YL5 key so use caution, or send pictures! The connection to the other manufacturers such as Studebaker, Nash, Chrysler, Imperial, Paige-Detroit, Oakes, and others could not be confirmed from more than one source, and I usually try to double confirm my info, but in this case, its just not possible. If you have a 1920's vehicle from these makes, send me a pic of your keys and I can help. Check my other auctions as I will be putting up lots more interesting classic keys in the upcoming days! I am a collector who purchases vintage lots of keys. If you have anything special available, I would love to hear from you. Please ask questions and look closely at both front and back grooves on the pictured key prior to bid as I want you to be happy with your purchase. Thanks for looking and HAPPY MOTORING!
