Description: Beautiful bright pink flowers on long tall stems, resembling a sword-like pattern. Hard to find species Gladiolus seeds. Despite the name, they do not like growing in marshy conditions. Common Name: Marsh Gladiolus Native Range: Central and NW EuropeZone: 5 to 9 Height: 1.00 to 2.00 feetSpread: 0.75 to 1.50 feetBloom Time: May to JuneBloom Description: Pink with deep magenta markingsSun: Full sunWater: MediumMaintenance: MediumFlower: Showy Winter hardy to USDA Zones 7-10 where plants are best grown in fertile, organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. They tolerates some light afternoon shade. Site plants in a sheltered location protected from strong winds. Provide consistent moisture throughout the growing season, and do not allow soils to dry out. Germination Instructions:Growing bulbs from seed requires you to "trick" them into warm temperature first, followed by a cold period; place seeds in a ziplock baggie with slightly damp seed starting mix and keep at room temperature or warmer (64-75F) for 3 weeks. Then place the baggie in the fridge for 6 weeks. After this cold treatment, place soil and seed in a community pot or tray and water in gently. Keep warm again (room temperature or higher) and keep evenly moist (but not overly waterlogged or too heavy on the moisture). It might be helpful to cover the top with plastic to maintain even soil moisture. Germination will occur over a longer period; don't discard your tray too early, as the seedlings will sprout in a staggered fashion; this is a natural process to ensure survival of the plant in Spring when weather can be unpredictable.
