The division attacked and captured the fortress at Bitche, seized Fort Schiesseck, crossed the Vosges Mountains, withstood the assault of 3 German divisions in the last major counter offensive in Europe, and crossed the Neckar River at Heilbronn. The division was inactivated in Fort Patrick Henry Virginia on 10 January, 1946.
