Description: Up for consideration is a 19th Century original bronze depicting the Roman Boy with Goose sculpture. The bronze was made by artist J. B. Hawkins in 1842 and is made after the original in Rome (the side of the bronze reads "fait d'apres l' originale a Rome". It is quite large - 17" tall, 10" wide, and 9" deep; it weighs 8 lb 14 oz. It is in very good condition. I originally found it outside at an estate sale and it was green with patina. I carefully cleaned it and have had it indoors for several years. I do not know his history but believe that J. B. Hawkins was a European artist. I cannot find the document any longer, but know at one point I did find where he or she had entered this piece in an exhibition in Europe. He or she didn't win any prizes for it, but it did reference the particular piece thus verifying its age. The Roman version of the Boy with Goose is based upon the Hellenistic bronze statue attributed to Boethos. Roman marble copies are in the Vatican Museum in Rome and the Louvre in Paris. Please note the shipping costs includes the double-boxing of the item. It will be placed in a 22x12x12 box, and then that box will be put into a 36x18x18 box. This adds to weight and packing costs, but will help ensure it arrives safely.
