It was authorized in 1973 by the Bahrain Monetary Agency but issued in 1998. Bahrain is an island country located in the Persian Gulf. In ancient times it was famous for its pearls and its pearl fisheries were considered the best in the world into the 19th century. At the time this note was issued it was still an "Emirate". In 2002 the Emir, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, declared it a "Kingdom" and became the first King. "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (Modern Issues 1961-) by Albert Pick. #19.
