John Stockton was a consummate professional and a leader both on and off the court. He was known for his unselfish play and willingness to sacrifice personal glory for the benefit of the team. He was a master of the pick and roll, and the Jazz offense often ran through him. Stockton also had a great shooting touch, and was a career .515 shooter from the field. Throughout his career, Stockton was one of the most consistent players in the league. He also had tremendous durability, playing in 1,504 out of a possible 1,526 games. He was named to the All-Defensive first team three times, and was an All-Star 10 times. He led the NBA in assists for nine seasons, and was named to the All-NBA first team three times. John Stockton retired in 2003, and his No. 12 was retired by the Utah Jazz in 2004. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards in NBA history.
