Description: 1983 Ford Thunderbird fitted with a Ford Racing 460CJ Big Block Crate Motor, and a T5 Manual Trans. Car looks basically stock with a set of Phone Dials, and only a bit of rise in the fiberglass hood to point to maybe not quite a stock T-Bird. Car is titled and plated in NC. Car was built by an employee of a well-known drag race shop in PA, in about 2005. It has been driven very little since, with its most recent work being at a track day at Rockingham Speedway here in NC in Spring 2023. Car performed flawlessly at a leisurely pace of 100-110 MPH without any overheating or other issues. This was on the 25 year-old Goodyear Eagle GT Tires, which actually did a fair job of navigating the 1 mile oval. Since that use, the clutch master cylinder (under the dash) has developed a very slight drip, about 5 drips a month while sitting (or, it lost about 1/2 of the fluid in the tiny reservoir since that drive 18 months ago). Still drives/shifts ok, but I would expect to have to replace the cylinder before any major use. There is a small amount of rust around the back glass, as seen in the pics. Car runs great! After sitting for 60 days, and with no chokes on the dual carbs, the car will start after 15-20 seconds of attempt. Sounds great with its stainless exhaust, but can make some noise if you open the manual exhaust cutouts at the header collectors. Heat works great, no AC. Has an electric vacuum pump to provide vacuum due to the lope of the aggressive cam. Car was painted a beautiful Lincoln Pearl White which still looks very nice, but expect some garage dings etc here and there. Interior is good, not perfect but presentable, and is a brown color from a Mercury Cougar (only difference I find is the Cougar heads on the door panels). I have enjoyed the car for several years, but a new addition to the fleet soon will make this car redundant. The Thunderbird has been garaged for most of its’ life, but it will soon have to be stored outside. Title was branded in PA as SPECIAL CONSTRUCTED, EXCLUDED/EXEMPT due to engine change and lack of emissions equipment. When I registered the car in NC in 2019, our wonderful DMV changed the brand to RECONSTRUCTED. I have seen no evidence of any sort of accident damage on the car.Deposit of $500 due within 48 Hours of purchase, with balance due within 7 days UNLESS we discuss before you buy it now.
